Head Coach Sean Rutigliano


 Head Coach Sean Rutigliano Sean Rutigliano (roo-till-ee-AH-know) serves as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Colby College, bringing over a decade of collegiate coaching experience and a nationally recognized reputation for player development, teaching, and basketball camp leadership.

Before arriving at Colby, Rutigliano spent seven seasons at Belmont University, where he was elevated to Associate Head Coach and helped guide the Bruins to nine consecutive 20-win seasons. During his tenure, Belmont ranked among the nation’s best in scoring offense, effective field goal percentage, assists per game, and overall winning percentage. He coached multiple professional players—including NBA athletes Ben Sheppard, Garrison Mathews, Will Richard, and Jonathan Pierre—and helped Belmont secure 140 wins over six seasons. His impact earned him recognition on the Silver Waves Media Elite 50 list of the nation’s top men’s basketball assistant coaches.

Prior to Belmont, Rutigliano served four seasons on Casey Alexander’s staff at Lipscomb University, contributing to the most successful era in program history. The Bisons earned an NCAA Tournament berth, reached the NIT Championship game, and won 52 games in their final two seasons together. Earlier stops include Army West Point, University of Alabama in Huntsville, Ouachita Baptist University, and Kean University, where he developed a strong foundation in recruiting, game preparation, player development, and program operations.

Rutigliano also brings a wealth of experience in directing and managing basketball camps nationwide. He has led or assisted with camp operations at:

  • Belmont University – Day Camps (one of the largest youth basketball camps in Tennessee)
  • Lipscomb University – Day Camps, Overnight Camps, Team Camps
  • United States Military Academy at West Point – Overnight, Day, Team, and Elite Camps
  • University of Alabama in Huntsville – Elite Camps, Day Camps, Team Camps
  • Ouachita Baptist University – Youth, Elite, and Skills Camps

Across these roles, he has overseen curriculum design, staff supervision, safety, and camper experience for thousands of participants. His camps are known for their emphasis on fundamentals, energy, structure, and creating a positive environment where players build confidence and deepen their love for the game.

Rutigliano graduated magna cum laude from SUNY Cortland and earned his master’s degree from Ball State University

At Colby, Rutigliano leads the Mules program and all camp operations inside the Harold Alfond Athletics and Recreation Center, one of the premier athletic facilities in Division III.
